A Fun Articulation Exercise for Singers

If you’re wondering ‘How can I improve my articulation when singing’ then today’s video is for you. Mumbling your lyrics when you sing is a very common problem amongst new (and experienced) singers. It is also something that many singers do, often without realizing and it can really detract from your performance.

What is Articulation for Singing?

Vocal articulation is the how much you move your tongue, jaw, and other speech muscles when you’re singing. It is an often overlooked but crucial part of vocal technique that you need to understand in order to improve how clearly your audience can hear your words

Articulation also affects how your words and notes sound. It can mean the difference between a a clear note and a muffled one or an edgy word with punch and a sloppy word that no one can understand. As singers, we are completely unique from every other instrument in that we are the only ones that can tell stories so you wouldn’t want to jeopardize that by not singing clearly enough for your audience to hear your words.

Vocal articulation can seem like one of those ‘ah-ha’ moments where you wonder how you managed not to notice something for so long. Whether you are just starting out as a singer or are looking to improve your performance, understanding vocal articulation will help you become a better singer. So today I have a fun articulation exercise for you. You can sing along with me and watch the video as many times as you need to.
