A what??? A Glottal Stop.

If you’re wondering what the hell a Glottal Stop is, well you need to watch my video below. Glottal Stops are FANTASTIC tools that every singer should keep in her Singer’s Tool Kit. (If you haven’t heard me refer to a Singer’s Tool Kit before – I’m talking about all the vocal techniques that you develop over time to use to help you express a song the way you want to express it.)

A Glottal Stop is essentially the attack you put onto the start of a note by closing off the back of your throat first. It is the easiest way to make your voice sound larger than it really is and you can change the quality of the note as well.

Pop singers often fall into the habit of over using Glottal Stops and it can end up sounding awful. Similarly, singers with soft and airy voices tend to under utilize this technique.
