The best way to sound better singing a song than the original artist, is by making the song your own. However, in order to do that you will need to learn how to improvise. This means changing a few notes of the melody or altering the rhythm slightly to create a version that is unique to you.
This is easier said than done and if you find that you get ‘stuck’ singing the same melody over and over or if you are scared of making a mistake and singing out of tune, then you will love these two simple vocal improvisation techniques that I show you in this video.
Plus as a present from me to you, below this video I’ve given you a free download of the exercise I’m going to take you through now.
Happy improvising!

Thanks for the scatting basics. I’m trying to improve my scatting and will appreciate it if you will please post more scatting lessons in which the scats increase in variety, tempo and difficult. Thanks!
love this!
Can you a growling video
I love your growlings
I love your growlings can growl for me
Thank You! It’s always been fairly easy for me to scat over a blues vamp. But I still struggle with scatting over other tunes. Even like standard AABA format .. I often listen to scat solos from other singers, and horn solos, memorize them, then I embellish them myself. I can come up with cool phrasings, and even scat through partial melodies. I am still frustrated. Coming up with my own improvised scat solos has been the most difficult part of singing for me
